Less than a week after members of Boko Haram insurgency killed soldiers in Metele, four farmers in Jiddari-Polo, near Maiduguri, Borno state have been reportedly killed by Abubakar Shekau's faction of the extreme group.
The attackers who reportedly stormed the community on foot, injured one other farmer and spared a 75-year-old farmer, Mala Umara, with a message that to the Nigerian Army troop stationed in Jiddari-Polo to expect an impending attack.
Umara said: “They came in large numbers on foot while we were picking cowpea in the field and arrested six of us while others escaped.
“They macheted four to death before my eyes and left the other man seriously injured."
“They asked me to deliver a message to the soldiers that they should be prepared for an attack soon. They told me the same message three times and emphasized I convey it to the soldiers."
Another farmer, Abba Muhammad, who escaped when the militants stormed the crop fields, said the militants asked him for the location of the soldiers stationed in Jiddari-Polo.
He said: “Five of them armed with guns and machetes encircled me and began asking me the location of soldiers in Jiddari-Polo.
“One of them shouted that they should attack me with machetes but I instinctively bolted. Two of them pursued me but I was too fast for them. They took my bicycle with them."
