Throwback Thursday: 3 Classic Nollywood Movies Worth Re-watching

Nollywood has improved greatly over the years and now we are at a point where Nollywood films are getting recognition on international platforms like Netflix.
Not only are the films getting international recognition, but some of the key players in Nollywood are also playing roles in the international scene.
Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is a member of the  Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) while Mo Abudu is a certified member of the International Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences, the organization responsible for staging the Emmy Awards.
Unfortunately, while Nollywood has improved in terms of visuals and production, the stories that come out from present-day Nollywood are safe and to a large extent mediocre.
Ironically, old Nollywood wasn't afraid to dabble into different movie genres but these days Nollywood seems to be leaning heavily on the rom-com genre and comedy movies in general. There are very few movies that try to stand out but these movies don't get the same level of publicity like the mediocre comedy movies.
In this article, we'll be revisiting 3 classic Nollywood movies worth re-watching.
Girls Cot
This movie revolves around a girl (Genevieve Nnaji) who claims to be the Vice President’s daughter. She deceives her unsuspicious roommates to do her bidding, luring them into an elite social circle of the richest and most influential men in town. The group gets involved in blackmailing and scamming most of the government officials in the country.
- Sango: The legendary African king
In 1997, Wale Adebayo starred as Sango in one of Nigeria's best epic movies ever.
The film depicted the life and reign of the legendary fifteenth-century African king Sango, who ruled as the Alaafin of Oyo and became an important deity of the Yoruba people.
Karishika
Karishika' is one of the most popular horror movies in Nollywood.
Satan sends Karishika, a beautiful woman and the Queen of Demons, to Earth in order to initiate successful men into his Kingdom of Darkness. Karishika tempts these men with sex and money, and causes many to leave their wives and careers. While Karishika successfully converts many men into followers of Satan, she is eventually thwarted by one of her victim's wives, who turns to prayer in order to stop Karishika.
